Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness a historic political transition on Wednesday with the oath-taking ceremony of Omar Abdullah - the leader of the newly elected National Conference-Congress alliance in the union territory. Along with Abdullah, eight ministers will also be sworn in by the J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on October 15 at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar.
While former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav reached Srinagar on Tuesday, many leaders are expected to join the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister-designate Omar Abdullah.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi along with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge are among the confirmed guests in the list of over 50 high-profile invitees at the event. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, NCP-SCP leader Supriya Sule, DMK's Kanimojhi, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat and CPI leader D Raja are among the guests to the historic occasion.

Jammu and Kashmir Oath Ceremony: Time And Place
The swearing-in ceremony will start at 11.30 am on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center located on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister, reported Dainik Jagran.
For the VIP guests attending the ceremony, arrangements have been made at a heritage hotel situated by the side of Dal Lake. While a five-star hotel on the Karlasangri hill has also been reserved to house some guests, huts at Chashmashahi were also kept for some VIPs.
Security Tightened At Swearing-In Ceremony Venue
The ceremony will take place amid tight security cover in the wake of continued terror attacks in the Kashmir region. The Jammu and Kashmir police along with other security agencies are partaking in the robust security arrangements at the premises.
"The security has been beefed up especially as a lot of VVIPs will be attending the event. We will ensure the smooth conduct of the event," a security official said.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, SK Virdi said that tight security arrangements have been placed at the swearing-in ceremony venue.
"Public vehicular movement will be restricted in some areas around Dal Lake and from Boulevard Road to Foreshore Road till afternoon," the official added.
