Jharkhand Police on Friday said four persons suffocated to death in Garhwa while attempting to clean a septic tank. According to police, three of the deceased were brothers. DIG (Palamu Range) Naushad Alam said the incident happened in Nawada village, Garhwa, when they attempted to clean a septic tank.

The deceased suffocated after being exposed to toxic gases as they opened the lid of the septic tank.

The deceased were identified as Ajay Chaudhary (50), Chandrashekhar Chaudhary (42), and Raju Shekhar Chaudhary (55), the brothers, and Maltu Ram.

Police said an investigation is underway and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Cleaning a septic tank is a risky affair as it releases toxic gas. The government in every state made directions on the safety measures, but people often ignore the laid-down process of cleaning a septic tank, causing fatal results.

Father-Son Duo Among 3 Asphyxiate To Death 

Recently on July 9, three persons, including a father-son duo, died allegedly after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning the septic tank of their house in Bihar's Samastipur district.

The incident took place in Salha Buzurg village in Larjaghat police station area. Speaking to reporters, Larjaghat police station Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar said, "Police received information that three people fell unconscious while cleaning the septic tank of their house in Salha Buzurg village on Tuesday evening. All three were taken out of the tank with the help of villagers and were taken to the nearest hospital where they were declared dead."
