Amid the ongoing student agitation in Ranchi against alleged irregularities in various competitive examinations, including JPSC and JSSC, the deteriorating health of the hunger strikers has become a major concern.
Another worrying incident unfolded during the protest on Friday. While raising slogans, protesting student B. Pandey suddenly fell ill and was immediately rushed to Sadar Hospital. Two other protesting students also complained of health issues and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Rahul, a resident of Palamu and one of the students on hunger strike, also suffered a sharp deterioration in his health and was admitted to Sadar Hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors shifted him to the ICU, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari visited him at the hospital to inquire about his condition.

Upon receiving information about Rahul's deteriorating health, the administration also swung into action. The SDO and SDM arrived at Sadar Hospital and inquired about Rahul's health from doctors. Officials reviewed the treatment arrangements and directed the provision of necessary medical care.

Meanwhile, protesting students alleged that the health of those on hunger strike for a long time is steadily deteriorating, yet there are no adequate medical facilities at the protest site. The students demanded that a doctor and medical team be deployed at the protest site 24 hours a day to provide immediate treatment in case of any emergency. They said that neglecting health could lead to a serious situation at any time.
Currently, three students are on a hunger strike, including Student leader Devendra Mahato, who has been on a hunger strike for the last six days.
The protesters said they will continue their hunger strike and agitation until the government takes positive action on their demands. Meanwhile, following Rahul's admission to the hospital, health check-ups of the other hunger strikers have been intensified.
Students present at the protest site said the administration should not limit itself to hospital treatment but should also ensure continuous medical monitoring at the protest venue. They warned that if proper medical care is not provided in time, the health of the other protesters could also deteriorate seriously.
With Rahul admitted to the ICU, concerns among the protesting students have only increased. All eyes are now on the administration's next steps and the government's response to the ongoing protest.
About The Protest
The stir started following the declaration of the result of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Exam on July 5 on the grounds of the huge-scale irregularities during the recruitment process. For the last 14 days, the movement against irregularities turned massive, with hundreds of aspirants joining the round-the-clock protest in Jharkhand’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi.
The students have been demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged recruitment scam. Meanwhile, the state government had argued that the CID is also conducting an inquiry and a few persons have been arrested.
