The Madhya Pradesh government will be hiring 30,000 health professionals, including 3000 doctors, to boost healthcare services across the state, announced Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Sunday.

The program, according to Rajendra Shukla, the head of the health department, would improve primary and community healthcare services offered by district hospitals and health centres. Shukla said during a press conference in Rewa that the hiring will aid in addressing the medical personnel shortfall.

“Once a sufficient number of doctors and paramedical staff are available, the arrangements in the district hospitals as well as community and primary health centres will improve,” said Shukla at a press interaction in Rewa, reported The Hindu.

For many years, doctors in India's healthcare system have been understaffed, sometimes working 36-hour shifts. Numerous authorised positions for specialist doctors at rural health centres are still vacant, according to a September report from the Union Health Ministry.

The survey states that in rural health centres, there is a deficit of specialist doctors by around 70 percent. In the case of surgeons, the shortfall is as high as 73 percent. According to the study, there are just seven surgeons serving in Madhya Pradesh out of 332 sanctioned posts.

Apart from the healthcare initiatives, Shukla also discussed the state's emphasis on economic growth. He added that on October 23, the Regional Industry Conclave would be held in Rewa by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. According to PTI, this event is anticipated to attract significant investments, fostering industrial growth not just in Rewa but also in the larger Vindhya area.
