  1. MP government targets 2 lakh job vacancies.
  2. Promotions restart, opening new recruitment avenues.
  3. Phased recruitment plan over next two years.

With the promotion process set to resume in Madhya Pradesh, the state government plans to fill nearly 2 lakh vacant government posts over the next two years. Officials believe that as employees are promoted, vacancies created at lower levels will pave the way for fresh recruitment.

All government departments have been directed to prepare a list of vacant posts. As promotions take place, departments will prepare recruitment proposals for the newly vacant positions and send them to the concerned recruitment agencies. The General Administration Department has also developed a dedicated portal to monitor and display the status of vacancies across departments.

Recruitment Hit Due to Promotion Freeze

The recruitment process has been suffering in the state for a long time because of no promotions and many administrative factors. Posts of more than 1.5 lakh are empty across various departments of the state. Because of no promotions, no vacancies at lower levels were created.

This resulted in slowing down the recruitment. Many posts which became empty due to retirement were filled by transfer within the department rather than fresh recruitments.

On the other hand, unemployment has angered the youth, leading then-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to launch a recruitment drive ahead of the 2023 assembly elections. However, while recruitment was initiated for around one lakh posts, only about 67,000 appointments were completed. Recruitment for more than 10,000 posts remains stalled due to the pending issue of 27 per cent OBC reservation.

CM Mohan Yadav's Plan for 2.5 Lakh Recruitments

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav announced that there would be 2.5 lakh government recruitments in the state during the next three years. After the CM’s announcement, the General Administration Department asked all the departments to send the proposals for recruitments in the departments after promotions.

Recruiting such a large number at once would have increased establishment costs, potentially disrupting financial management. Therefore, the Finance Department developed a formula for recruiting 2,50,000 posts over three years. According to this, recruitment will be done in a phased manner from 2026 to 2028.

With the promotion process now underway, the General Administration Department has once again instructed all departments to assess the number of vacancies likely to arise each year and prepare detailed recruitment plans accordingly. The action plans will help ensure that vacant posts are filled in a phased and timely manner.
