Parents in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district allegedly killed their four-month-old daughter by smashing her against the wall in their home. The incident took place on Sunday night in Domkal town. Police said the accused killed their child as she was the third consecutive girl child born to the parents.

The accused were identified as Rintu Mondal and Beluwara Bibi who killed their four-month daughter named Khadija Khatun. The victim’s grandmother Firoza Bibi first noticed that the girl child was missing on Monday morning following which she informed her other family members and neighbours. The incident was then reported to police who initiated an investigation into the matter.

"Probably the incident took place on Sunday night but the parents kept it secret for the entire night to ensure that the girl child dies. My son always remains intoxicated. Since the birth of the third girl child, there were regular events of tiff between my son and his wife over the birth of the victim. But I never thought that the tiff would result in such an end," Firoza Bibi said as quoted by news agency IANS.

Police have filed a case against the parents under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 302 (murder). Meanwhile, the body of the victim was sent for a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of the death.

''The parents of the four-month-old victim have been arrested and the body of the victim has been sent for postmortem. The exact reason behind the death will be known only after the autopsy report is available,'' a police official said.
