The protest was called against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of voter-list tampering related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Security was tightened across Central Delhi, and police detained several politicians and youths attempting to reach Jantar Mantar.
"Does Not Represent True Story"
Speaking about the protest at Jantar Mantar, Patra said the visuals shown on television and social media did not represent the broader reality of the country.
"What is happening at Jantar Mantar and what is being shown on TV and across various social media handles does not represent the true story of India. India is peaceful, and India is moving forward with good governance," the BJP MP said.
He further claimed that there was an attempt to hold the national capital and the whole of India hostage through the protest.
"There were attempts to incite violence, physical altercations, and street battles here. It remained a flop show. Democracy triumphed over mob rule... the anarchists have failed, and their flop show did not succeed," he added.
BJP Criticises Rahul Gandhi's Remarks On President Murmu
Patra also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks that President Droupadi Murmu did not deny the INDIA bloc's "vote chori" allegation at a meeting.
The BJP spokesperson called Gandhi an "incompetent" leader and accused him of bringing the President into the controversy.
"He has tried to drag the President of India into the same anarchy that he is trying his best to spread on the streets of India," Patra alleged.
Sources Say President Did Not Accept 'Vote Theft' Claims
Meanwhile, claims by Gandhi suggesting that President Droupadi Murmu accepted allegations of "vote theft" are inaccurate, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.
The sources added that it is "unfortunate that the President of India is being dragged into controversy raised by the opposition."
