CJP Protests: Delhi Police on Saturday communicated to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke about the demise of his grandmother. It is now up to him whether he wants to stay back and continue the protest under detention or fly back for the last rites, News Agency ANI reported, quoting Delhi Police sources.

Dipke, along with other CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, was detained by the Delhi Police from the aircraft upon landing at the IGI airport ahead of the scheduled protest by the Cockroach Janata Party at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over the alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission.

Dipke's paternal grandmother passed away at the age of 85 in Maharashtra's Hingoli district on Saturday following a prolonged illness, family, news agency PTI reported, quoting sources. Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke breathed her last at 11.30 am at the paternal house in Santuk Pimpri village. She was ill for a month and was hospitalised in Hingoli earlier. Her last rites will be performed at 10 am on Sunday, the sources said.

"As Abhijeet Dipke has been detained in the national capital, we could not contact him. But we have contacted his parents, and they are on the way to Santuk Pimpri," said Dipke's cousin.

He said Dipke had met his grandmother on August 15 when he launched the 'School Thik Karo' campaign from the Hingoli district and one more time. "He could not meet her in the last 20-25 days," sources said.

Abhijeet Dipke's Parents Slam Police Action

Earlier in the day, Dipke's parents accused the government of not respecting democracy as they questioned the detention of their son and the deployment of a large police force, asking whether students are "Chambal dacoits". Police launched a sweeping crackdown in the national capital, detaining Abhijeet Dipke, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and nearly 500 protesters, foiling their bid to reach Jantar Mantar.
