Punjab Drug Menace: A Punjab Police inspector was arrested with over 3 kg heroin and weapons in Ferozepur, drawing severe criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been carring out state-wide 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections 2027.
The accused inspector has been posted in the Counter Intelligence wing, and heroin and weapons were allegedly seized from his car. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint and intercepted the car of inspector Baldev Singh on Ferozepur-Moga road, said a senior police officer on Saturday.

"During the search of the vehicle, the police recovered 3.350 kg heroin, six pistols with magazines, four additional magazines, seven live rounds and six mobile phones," Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at Ghall Khurd police station. The SSP said that police were investigating the involvement of other persons from within the department as well as outside. He said the police had zero tolerance towards such acts. "The accused will be produced in court for police remand," said the SSP.
AAP Pushed Punjab Deeper Into The Drug Menace: BJP
Senior BJP leader and Uttarakhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Pushkar Singh Dhami, while addressing public gatherings during the BJP's 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' in Hoshiarpur, on Saturday, accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of pushing Punjab deeper into the drug menace. He said the BJP would restore its lost glory by making it an "Ubharda Punjab" (rising Punjab).

Dhami alleged that the drug menace had assumed serious proportions in the state and that drug traffickers were operating freely due to the alleged failure of the government and police to effectively tackle the problem.
He said the BJP had adopted a five-point strategy to fight the drug menace, including strict action against drug peddlers, breaking the supply chain through which drugs enter and circulate, targeting the financial assets and networks of drug mafias, rehabilitation of drug-affected youth and involving all sections of society in the campaign.
The chief minister said the 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' is not a political exercise aimed at seeking votes but an effort to save Punjab's youth from drugs and turn the campaign into a people's movement.
The BJP launched the anti-drug campaign across all 117 Assembly constituencies on September 18. The yatras covered around 4,000 km till date.
