Punjab Polls: Ahead of the assembly election in Punjab, Congress leader Amrinder Raja Warring on Wednesday resigned from the post of party state president. The next state chief of Congress is likely to be announced in the next two days, with several senior leaders in the race. Warring's resignation came after several Congress leaders expressed dissatisfaction with his works, claiming that the party would suffer in the coming polls under his leadership.

Appointment Of Sachin Pilot

The top brass of Congress, despite multiple objections, had reportedly clarified that Warring will continue to lead the party in Punjab. However, party instructed the then state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel to prepare a report and consult with the factions. The party recently replaced Baghel with Sachin Pilot as its state-in charge after the former failed to end the internal conflict.

Pilot's Report To Top Brass

Within weeks of his appointment, Pilot met with all the senior leaders, including Raja Warring, Charanjit Singh Channi, and Sukhjinder Randhawa. Apart from this, he also visited Punjab and held multiple rounds of meetings with the ground workers. In his report submitted to the high command, Pilot insisted that removal of Warring could help the party in the coming polls, reported NDTV, citing sources.

Congress Unlikely To Announce CM Face

The top brass was aware of this infighting for a long time and decided to change the state chief to ensure that the party contest the coming polls with full preparation, the sources added.
