The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has questioned the whereabouts of its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, and demanded the release of all detainees after Delhi Police said it had informed him about his grandmother’s death and offered assistance to travel to his hometown in Maharashtra for her last rites.

“Where is Abhijeet?” the party asked in response to a Delhi Police post on X, which said Dipke had been informed about the death and offered possible assistance to return home on humanitarian grounds.

“His family wants to talk to him; they’re going to perform his grandmother’s last rites tomorrow morning. The least they deserve is to talk to him. RELEASE ALL DETAINEES NOW,” the CJP wrote on X.

Dipke’s 85-year-old grandmother, Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke, died at around 11.30 am on Saturday after a prolonged illness at her home in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district. Her last rites were scheduled for Sunday morning.

Dipke Detained At Delhi Airport

Dipke, along with CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was detained by Delhi Police inside an aircraft at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday morning. The three had arrived from Mumbai at around 9.45 am to participate in the party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The police detained the three leaders, saying the planned demonstration had not been permitted. They were subsequently taken to separate locations. Dipke was reportedly taken to Gurugram, while Das and Ranka were moved to detention centres in Jafarpur Kalan and Outer Delhi, respectively.

Police Says Dipke Was Offered Help To Travel Home

In its statement, Delhi Police said the news of Dipke’s grandmother’s death and the scheduled time of the funeral had been conveyed to him.

“The unfortunate information regarding the death of the grandmother of Abhijeet Dipke was immediately shared with him with due sensitivity, and the known time of the funeral was intimated to him. He was also offered possible facilitation for his journey to his hometown on humanitarian grounds,” the police said.

However, the CJP continued to demand information about Dipke’s whereabouts and the release of all those detained in connection with the planned protest. The party said his family wanted to speak to him before the funeral and should at least be allowed to contact him.
