Jagran Correspondent, Noida: In a major relief for Greater Noida West residents, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is likely to receive approval from the Public Investment Board (PIB) for the Aqua Line extension project on July 22. The 7.5-km extension from Sector 61 to Kisan Chowk is expected to provide significant relief to commuters travelling between Noida and Greater Noida, directly benefiting more than 4 lakh residents.

NMRC Managing Director Krishna Karunesh has been invited to present the project's utility and feasibility study before the PIB. Once operational, the new corridor is expected to benefit nearly 5 lakh residents living in various housing societies across Greater Noida West. It is also likely to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Gaur Chowk, Noida, and Greater Noida West.

Noida Metro Aqua Line: Sector 51 to Kisan Chowk | New stations

The proposed 7.5-km extension will connect Noida Sector 51 with Kisan Chowk (Greater Noida West, Sector 4). The corridor will have five new stations:

- Sector 61

- Sector 70

- Sector 122

- Sector 123

- Greater Noida Sector 4

The project will extend the existing Aqua Line, creating a new public transport link between Noida and Greater Noida West.

Aqua Line extension to boost airport connectivity via RRTS corridor

The extension has been strategically planned to integrate with the Ghaziabad–Jewar (Noida International Airport) RRTS corridor in the future. This multimodal connectivity is expected to enable seamless travel to the upcoming Noida International Airport for commuters from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi, strengthening the regional transit network across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The project is estimated to cost over Rs 1,500 crore, and the funding will be shared jointly by the central government, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the Noida and Greater Noida authorities.

NMRC Managing Director Krishna Karunesh said that metro projects fall under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and the NMRC is an undertaking of the Government of India.
