- NMRC revised Aqua Line extension alignment after resident objections.
- Project cost increased by Rs 100 crore, route extended 1 km.
- Botanical Garden to become major interchange hub for NCR.
Jagran Correspondent, Noida: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has changed the alignment of the Botanical Garden to Sector-142 Aqua Line extension project. This modification was made after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was finalised, following objections raised by residents of Sector 44. The residents had opposed the metro line passing through their sector.
NMRC Revises Aqua Metro Alignment
Due to the change in alignment, the Aqua Metro link line will now pass above the Blue Line once and the Magenta Line twice. This has increased the total route length of the project by about one kilometre and the cost is also expected to rise by nearly Rs 100 crore. The project is planned to be completed within four years and is expected to provide public transport facilities to around two lakh people.
This project will directly connect Greater Noida with other cities in the NCR. The link line will connect at the Botanical Garden station with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Blue Line (Electronics City, Noida Sector-62 to Delhi-Dwarka route) and Magenta Line (Botanical Garden, Noida to Janakpuri route). Earlier, the route was planned to pass through the Botanical Garden station, extending inside the station area and connecting beyond the Blue Line and Magenta Line.
Route Change Increases Length
However, alignment has now changed. A new platform or section will be constructed at the end of the Blue Line metro at the Botanical Garden station to facilitate the connection. The link line will run along the side of the Blue Line. From here, the Aqua Metro link line will run parallel to the Blue Line and reach the Botanical Garden. At this point, it will cross the Blue Line from above and then pass over the Magenta Line via the service road before moving ahead.
After this, the line will continue along the edge of Botanical Garden towards Amity Chowki and again cross the Magenta Line (heading towards Okhla Bird Sanctuary Metro Station) from above. It will then reach the green belt in front of Gate No. 4 of Amity International School in Sector-44, where the first station will be developed.
From there, it will turn right, cross Sector-44 and the 45-metre-wide Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and move through the green belt towards Sector-142. With this change, the project route has increased from 11.56 km to 12.56 km, and the cost has risen from Rs 2,254.35 crore to Rs 2,354.35 crore.
Nine Firms Compete For Aqua Project
Nine companies have shown interest in the construction work for the Aqua Metro extension from the Greater Noida depot to Bodaki and the Aqua Link Line. On Friday, NMRC opened the technical bids for the tender. The companies that submitted bids include Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Milan Road Buildtech LLP, J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd, Dilip Buildcon Ltd, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, Ranjit Buildcon Ltd, SEM India Projects Ltd, and KEC International Ltd. Their documents are set to undergo technical evaluation.
Easier Access To NCR Cities
The construction of the new link will benefit passengers on the Magenta and Blue Lines by making it easier to reach Noida International Airport, sectors along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, IT and corporate offices, and Greater Noida. Currently, Noida and Greater Noida are connected via the Aqua Line metro, which runs from the Sector-51 metro station to the Greater Noida Depot.
Although the total track length is 29.707 km, passengers currently have to walk around 400 metres to complete the interchange. The new link will remove this inconvenience. Once operational, Botanical Garden metro station will become the major interchange hub for the Noida and Greater Noida metro networks.
This will facilitate easy transfers to the Blue Line (running from Dwarka, Delhi to Sector-62, Noida) and the Magenta Line (running from Botanical Garden to Janakpuri). Entry and exit points will be provided at the Botanical Garden metro station itself, as separate token counters will be set up for the new link.
Eight Stations Planned
There will be eight stations on the metro corridor. Stations will be constructed at Botanical Garden, Sector-44, Sector-96 (Noida Administrative Building), Sector-105, Sector-108, Sector-93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College. The final station of the corridor will be Sector-142, which is already complete. Additionally, two stations, Junapat and Bodaki will be built on the stretch from the depot to Bodaki.
“Nine companies have applied for the construction of the Aqua Metro extension and the link line project, and the work is expected to be awarded within one month. The alignment of the link line has slightly changed, and instead of passing through the interior, the metro will now run from outside Sector-44,” Krishna Karunesh, Managing Director of NMRC said.
