The residents of Jammu and Kashmir have been asked to stay alert and vigilant amid rising terrorist attacks in the Union Territory and report suspected persons to the police with the information of their description. In this regard a senior Jammu police official on Saturday noted key steps for residents to identify and report such individuals
“If someone sees a suspicious person, please note down his description - his height, his clothes, whether he was carrying any weapon or was he trying to hide his identity,” said SP City South Jammu, Ajay Sharma.
“I will not say that the alertness level has been increased. Jammu and Kashmir Police is always alert on every front” he added on being asked about the increased alertness level among the police.
"It was reported that a few suspected people were seen by a boy. He reported it to the nearest security agency...That turned out to be imaginary only. I won't say it was fake...The search was conducted for four hours..,” the SP further said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
Recently, a Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, news agency PTI reported citing officials. According to the officials, the infiltrator was seen going into Indian territory close to the Khora post.
On the other hand, on July 16, as many as four Army personnel, including an officer, were killed while fighting the terrorists in Doda. Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The "Kashmir Tigers," a shadow group of the Pakistan-backed terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), claimed responsibility for the attack.
Jammu has recently witnessed a surge in terror attacks and infiltration attempts along the line of control (LoC). At least 22 people, including 11 security personnel and a village defence guard (VDG) member, have been killed this year in incidents in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua and Doda districts.

Owing to such incidents in the Jammu region, the government has decided to redeploy the Army in the hilly areas of Kathua and Doda. Besides, extra companies of central forces will also be positioned in the Jammu region. These security forces will not only conduct operations to search and eliminate terrorists but will also involve local villagers in the campaign to destroy the terrorists and their ecosystem.
