Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday filed his nomination from Kerala’s Wayanad seat. Gandhi contested two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls-- Amethi and Wayanad-- but managed to register victory only in the latter. He lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani in Congress’s strong bastion Amethi.
Rahul took part in a 2-km roadshow along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra before filing his poll papers.

“Wayanad is my home, and the people of Wayanad are my family. From them, I have learned a great deal over the last five years and received an abundance of love and affection. It is with great pride and humility that I file my nomination for Lok Sabha 2024 once again from this beautiful land. This election is a fight for the soul of India; it is a fight to preserve our democracy from the forces of hatred, corruption, and injustice that seek to suppress the voice of Bharat Mata. I, along with every member of INDIA, will not rest until this battle is won. We will bring together every citizen from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and from Manipur to Mumbai to strengthen our Union of States,” he posted on X.

As per Rahul’s affidavit, he owns assets worth Rs 20.4 crore and has 18 criminal candidates pending on him. He accumulated a fortune worth Rs 6 crore in the last five years.
In one of the 18 cases, a Gujarat court convicted Gandhi in the 'Modi surname' remark. However, the conviction was stayed by the Supreme Court. His affidavit says he, as on March 15, had Rs 55,000 as cash in hand and Rs 26,25,157 in his two bank accounts.
As per News 18, Rahul Gandhi has also declared agricultural land, owned jointly with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in Delhi’s Mehrauli, along with office space in Gurugram valued at ₹11 crore.
Wayanad seat has become a bone of contention for the INDIA bloc as both the Congress and the CPI have fielded their candidates here. Rahul Gandhi will be fighting against CPI’s Annie Raja. The Left Front has rebuked Gandhi for choosing Wayanad.
