As many as 12 persons, including eight children, were killed in a devastating road accident in the Bari Sadar police station area of Dholpur district in Rajasthan. The incident took place around 11 pm when a sleeper coach bus collided with a tempo carrying passengers.    

According to reports, cited by Jagran.com, 11 family members from Bari city were travelling to attend a traditional ‘Bhaat’ ceremony at a relative’s house. All family members were travelling together in the tempo when the tragic collision occurred near Sunipur Village.

Bari Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO), Shiv Lahari Meena, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been kept at the morgue, and the post-mortems will be conducted today. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and the police are conducting a detailed investigation.

The victims of the accident include 13-year-old Aasmaan (daughter of Bunty), 35-year-old Bunty (son of Gaffo), 7-year-old Salman (son of Bunty), 5-year-old Sakir (son of Bunty), 9-year-old Danish (son of Zaheer), 5-year-old Asim (son), 30-year-old Zarina (wife of Nahanu), 10-year-old Aashiyana (daughter of Nahanu), 8-year-old Sukhi (daughter of Nahanu), and 9-year-old Sanij (son of Nahanu).

 A 34-year-old woman named Julie, who was referred to the district hospital, died on the way. Meanwhile, 37-year-old Dharmendra (son of Malkhan) and 11-year-old Sajid (son of Aashiq) were admitted to the hospital in critical condition, where Sajid also passed away, as per a report in NBT.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his anguish over the incident. Besides, he announced ex gratia for the next of kin of each deceased.

 “The accident in Dholpur, Rajasthan is heartbreaking. My condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives including innocent children. May God give them strength to bear this pain. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in all possible help to the victims,” PMO posted on X.
