The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a blistering attack on the Congress after its MP Randeep Surjewala made a contentious remark against BJP leader and Mathura MP Hema Malini.

BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi reprimanded Congress for Surjewala’s disrespectful comment. “This is a new low to disrespect and demean the dignity of women in Indian politics by the Congress party. On one side, there is PM Modi who named the south pole of the moon where India became the first country to land as the 'Shiv-Shakti' point and on the other side it's Congress and their statements about women. This is not just merely an isolated statement by a Congress leader but a structured and well-thought-of dastardly mindset of the Congress party regarding the dignity of women...Hema Malini is of the age of Sonia Gandhi and she is a symbol of self-made women in post-independence India,” he said.

Pointing out the remark as sexist and derogatory BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya strongly rebuked the Congress and Rahul Gandhi for disrespecting women.   

“Congress MP Randeep Surjewala makes a vile sexist comment, that is demeaning and derogatory, not just for Hema Malini, who is an accomplished individual, but women in general. He asks, MP/MLA kyun banate ho? Taaki wo hamari baat utha sake, hamari baat mnvaye, isliye banate hoge. Koi Hema Malini to hai nahi jo chaatne k liye banate ho,” he posted on X with the video of Surjewala.

“Who thinks of women as something to lick? That is the most disgusting description someone can come up with. Just the other day, Surjewala’s colleague was asking ‘rate’ of another BJP woman leader, and now this…This is Rahul Gandhi’s Congress. It is misogynistic and abhors women,” he added.

Other BJP leaders, including Shehzad Poonawalla and the party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, have also criticised Surjewala’s statement.

BJP leader Hema Malini also spoke about the issue and said the Congress should learn to respect women from PM Narendra Modi. “They target only popular people because targeting the unpopular ones won't do them any good... They should learn how to respect women from PM Narendra Modi... I am here to file my nomination and on this happy occasion, I do not want to talk about what anyone else said," she said while talking to the media.

Surjewala’s response:

After facing massive backlash over his comment, Surjewala claimed his video was manipulated by the BJP IT cell. He also shared a list of remarks allegedly made by PM Modi against women.
