A 58-year-old man was arrested after Rajasthan Police recovered a massive cache of explosives, including 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate, from a field in Nagaur district, officials said on Sunday.

Massive Explosives Cache Recovered in Nagaur Raid

Acting on a tip-off, a special team conducted a late-night raid on Saturday in Harsaur village, under the Nagaur district. During the operation, police recovered 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate stored in 187 sacks, along with a large quantity of explosive accessories. Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa said the explosives were concealed in a field owned by the accused.

SP Mridul Kachhawa said, "For quite some time, the Nagaur police had been receiving intelligence reports indicating that large quantities of explosive materials were being bought, sold, and stored in the district. Yesterday, the district police carried out a major operation. In the operation, one person, Suleman Khan, an accused in this case, has been arrested. A case has been registered under sections of the Explosives Act and organised crime. A large quantity of explosive material was seized from the site. This is possibly the biggest operation under the Explosives Act in the state. A total of 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was seized.”

“A large quantity of detonators, detonating wire, and other materials commonly used for mining-related blasting were also seized. The accused, Suleman Khan, is a resident of Harsore. He was storing the stock in his farmhouse. The accused has three previous cases registered against him, all related to the Explosives Act. He has been acquitted in one of them" he added. 

According to police, the seized material included nine cartons of detonators, 15 bundles of blue fuse wire, and nine bundles of red fuse wire, among other items. Based on internal intelligence inputs, the police team also searched the residence of the accused at Thanvla in Nagaur on Sunday, where further incriminating material was found.

The accused, identified as Suleman Khan, a resident of Harsaur village, was arrested on the spot. He has three previous criminal cases registered against him, the SP confirmed.

Links to Illegal Mining, Central Agencies Alerted

Police said preliminary interrogation revealed that Suleman Khan was allegedly supplying explosives to individuals involved in both legal and illegal mining activities. A case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act, 1884.

Officials also seized additional explosive accessories, including 12 cartons and 15 bundles of blue fuse wire and 12 cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire. Ammonium nitrate, officials noted, has been linked to several major blast cases in the past, including an explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort in November 2025.

The SP said that central agencies have been informed about the seizure and are expected to question the accused as part of a broader investigation.

Separately, police recalled a major explosives seizure on December 2, when a pickup truck carrying illegal explosives was intercepted at Nathdwara Shrinathji. The vehicle was found to be carrying material capable of causing destruction within a 10-kilometre radius. During the search, police recovered 83 packets of ICL Prime X explosives, each weighing 2.78 kg, along with 109 cartons containing 981 cartridges. Another carton contained 100 TLHD (truck line detonators), while 93 detonators fitted with DT fuse were also seized. A 30-foot-long safety fuse was found in the vehicle.
