Jagran Correspondent, Sangrur: The Punjab Police have arrested two accused, a delivery boy and a carpenter, for hurling a petrol bomb at the BJP district office in Sangrur. The arrests were made within 12 hours, and the probe has revealed that the accused were in contact with a foreigner named Rana Bhai through social media.
According to information, Rana Bhai orchestrated the attack by luring them with a large sum of money. The accused filmed the crime and sent it to Rana Bhai. They paid Rs 1,200 each using a UPI ID. Police recovered the motorcycle and two mobile phones.
Speaking about the incident, SSP Dr Ravjot Grewal said that on the night of July 26, at around 2:35 AM, two unidentified assailants walked onto the road from Upli village.
The accused lit a bottle on fire, threw it at the BJP office, and then headed towards Upli Road. The accused carried out the attack with the intention of damaging the building and disrupting the atmosphere.

Police formed teams
To trace the accused, teams were formed under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Investigations) Davinder Attri, including DSP Dalveer Singh Sidhu, DSP Satnam Singh, DSP (Detective) Sukhdev Singh, Inspector Sukhdeep Singh, in-charge of City 1 Police Station, and Inspector Sandeep Singh, in-charge of the CIA staff. A team led by Dr Simrat Kaur, AIG of Counter Intelligence, also made significant contributions to the investigation.
Based on a meticulous investigation, the accused were identified as Happy Singh alias Happy, a resident of Bhammabandi, Police Station Longowal (Sangrur), and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi, a resident of Ward No. 12, Shaheed Udham Singh Basti, Lehra. Police have added sections of the UAPA to the case registered at Police Station City-1.
Contact with Rana Bhai through social media
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two accused were in contact with a man named Rana Bhai through the internet. According to the accused, he had promised them a large sum of money in exchange for throwing petrol bombs at the BJP office and sending a video of the incident.
According to the police, Rana Bhai sent Rs 2,200 to the two accused through two transactions. The accused also filmed the scene and sent it to Rana Bhai to receive the remaining amount. Police are investigating Rana Bhai's internet media accounts and UPI ID.
22-year-old Happy Singh works at Flipkart, while 26-year-old Jaspreet Singh Jassi is a carpenter. They connected through the internet and then, at Rana Bhai's behest, carried out the crime.
