Nine children died while several others were injured after a wall of a temple collapsed in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at Hardaul Baba temple in Shahpur during a religious ceremony. The injured individuals have been rushed to the hospital and are undergoing medical treatment.

The collapse happened when locals were gathered in the temple for the Bhagwat Katha event at Hardaul Baba temple. Children aged 8 to 14 were also present in the religious gathering when the 50-year-old raw wall adjacent to the temple premises gave way.

Witnesses described scenes of shouting and screaming as people immediately began removing debris to rescue the children trapped underneath. The Municipal Council and police are actively engaged in the relief efforts. Upon receiving news of the accident, Rahli MLA and former minister Gopal Bhargava arrived at the site to assess the situation.

According to reports, the collapsed wall, part of the temple complex, had been dilapidated for years. Despite its condition, it had not been demolished. Heavy rains in Sagar worsened the condition, with 104 mm recorded in the past 24 hours, heightening the risk to vulnerable structures in the area.

This incident follows a similar incident just a day earlier in the Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, where four children, aged 5 to 7, died after a wall collapsed while they were returning from school.A woman and another child also sustained injuries during the wall collapse. Police have arrested two owners of the abandoned and dilapidated building where the Rewa incident occurred.
