Sandeep Thapar, a Punjab Shiv Sena leader, was brutally attacked with sharp weapons by four assailants dressed as Nihang Sikhs in Ludhiana on Friday. He was admitted to the district hospital in a badly injured state, where his condition remains critical. A CCTV video of the attack, which took place in broad daylight on a busy Ludhiana road, surfaced over social media. In the video, two men were seen intercepting Thapar's two-wheeler on a busy road in front of Ludhiana Civil Hospital. Later, they were joined by two others in carrying out the attack.

Notably, Sandeep Thapar was provided police protection by the Punjab government after he received life threats for some speeches he had given. At the time of the incident, a Punjab Police guard was also accompanying the Shiv Sena leader. The guard was seen sitting behind Thapar, but he failed to stop the armed assailants.

Sandeep is a descendant of martyr Sukhdev Thapar who fought against the British army during the Indian freedom struggle. The brutal attack prompted outbursts among Hindu organisations across the state.
