Rohini Acharya Booked: RJD supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya has been booked in a case related to alleged irregularities during polling in Bihar's Saran Lok Sabha constituency and the post-poll violence that led to the death of one person there earlier this week, officials said on Thursday. Acharya, the Mahagathbandhan's candidate from Saran for the ongoing Lok Sabha election, is pitted against incumbent BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
Saran Violence: Overview
The post-poll violence that took place in Saran's Bada Telpa area on Tuesday morning claimed the life of one person and left two others injured. A total of four FIRs have been registered in connection with the "irregularities" on May 20, the day of voting in Saran, and the election-related clashes on Tuesday. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the cases so far.
Saran Violence: What FIR Against Rohini Acharya Says?
The FIR naming Acharya invoked various sections of the Representation of People Act, 1951, against the accused on the basis of a complaint by BJP leader Manoj Kumar, a representative of Rudy's. In his complaint, Manoj Kumar claimed that "Rohni Acharya, along with her seven supporters and 50 unidentified people indulged in illegal/irregular practices in polling booth number 318 and 319 in Chapra assembly seat on May 20," news agency PTI reported citing an official statement.
Saran Violence: Internet Ban Extended
According to officials, an internet ban was imposed in Saran following the post-poll violence. The state government later extended the internet ban by two days, till May 25, officials informed. Meanwhile, the process to attach properties of absconding accused was initiated, officials said. "The process to attach properties of absconding persons, who have failed to appear before the police, has also been initiated by the authorities concerned," police stated on Thursday.
Saran Violence: 'Situation Under Control'
"The situation in Saran is completely under control. Security personnel are keeping a strict vigil in the Bada Telpa area near Bhikhari Thakur Chowk following Tuesday's incident,” said Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir.
