Southwest Monsoon To Advance Across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana; Heavy Rain Alert Issued For Several States | Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further advancement of the southwest monsoon over the next four days, with the monsoon expected to cover the north Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and more areas of Rajasthan.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also predicted at isolated places over the Konkan and Gujarat region from July 4 to July 7, Madhya Maharashtra from July 4 to July 6, Saurashtra and Odisha on July 4 and 5 and over western Madhya Pradesh by the weather department.

Monsoon to Remain Active Over Central India

The IMD further said a well-marked low-pressure area has been set up over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to help maintain activity of the southwest monsoon over the central part of the country for the next four to five days.

Delhi Receives Moderate to Heavy Rain

The residents of Delhi and other nearby cities, including Noida and Gurugram, witnessed heavy rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds on Sunday, providing relief from the scorching heat. 

Intensity of rainfall between 5mm and 20mm per hour is anticipated over parts of Southeast Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, Northeast Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, Southwest Delhi, West Delhi and Northwest Delhi and North Delhi.

The weather department has further predicted thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at 40-50 kmph. Wind speed may reach 60 kmph at isolated places.

Scattered rain may fall on Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab on Sunday with rains possibly picking up pace from Monday, July 6 to July 8. Thundershowers, lightning and high-speed winds are also possible.

Rain Forecast for Northwest India

The IMD has forecast scattered rainfall for the northwestern region over Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on July 5 and then again on July 10.

The western Rajasthan region will witness rainfall between July 5 and 10, while the eastern part is expected to receive precipitation only on July 10. Similar patterns are also forecast in other parts of the northern plains, with rainfall expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab between July 5 and July 10. West Uttar Pradesh will be affected on July 5-7 and east Uttar Pradesh on July 5-6.

Also, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience widespread to heavy rains until July 10, and the Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad region is expected to witness heavy to very heavy showers from July 6 to July 9.
