In a tragic incident, senior Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) MP from Tamil Nadu’s Erode, A Ganesamoorthy, died of cardiac arrest in the early hours of Thursday, news agency ANI reported. The 76-year-old leader was reportedly rushed to a hospital in a critical condition on Sunday after an alleged suicide attempt. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore and was placed on ECHO support during his treatment.
Ganesamoorthy expressed his disappointment after the party denied him a ticket for contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Erode constituency. The MDMK and DMK recently decided to field Durai Vaiko, the son of MDMK general secretary Vaiko, as their candidate.
Vaiko on Sunday said that the party's core team has chosen to field Durai in the Lok Sabha elections after much deliberation. "There was even an internal poll to decide on both names. We wanted to speak to DMK chief and Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin to reward Ganeshamurthi. We also had in mind a seat for him in the assembly polls," Vaiko said.
