In a tragic incident, Veer Sharma, an eight-year-old TV actor, better known for his role as Pushkal in the 'Shrimad Ramayan' show of Sony SAB, died after a fire broke out at his home in Rajasthan's Kota on early Sunday morning.

Veer's elder brother, Shoriya Sharma, also died in the tragic fire. The police said that the boys were alone at their flat at the Deepshree building in the Anantpura police station area when the fire erupted at around 2:00 AM.

Their father, Jitendra Sharma, was out attending a bhajan programme while their mother was in Mumbai. Jitendra is a teacher at a coaching centre, while Rita is an actor.

The fire broke out in the drawing room of their flat on the fourth floor of the building. Kota SP Tejeshwani Goutam visited the spot and said that a short-circuit is suspected to have caused the blaze.

What did the police say?

The Kota SP said, "The children were sleeping when the incident took place. The fire did not spread to other rooms, and it appears that they died due to suffocation from the smoke".

Reacting to the incident, Circle Inspector (CI) Bhupendra Singh said that neighbours noticed smoke emanating from the flat after which they rushed to help. They broke open the door and found the boys in an unconscious state. The neighbours used fire extinguishers to douse the flames.

No fire tenders were called as the neighbours brought the flames under control quickly. "The children were taken to the hospital immediately, but doctors declared them brought dead," CI Singh added.
