Uttarakhand Cloudbursts: Cloudbursts were reported in Uttarakhand's Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, after which several families were reported trapped in the region. Jagran.com reported that at least eight people died and another eight went missing. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday informed about the incidents in a post on 'X' (previously Twitter). The chief minister said some families are feared trapped after the cloudburst, causing flash floods in the region.

Dhami said he was in constant contact with officials, and has issued necessary instructions to the Disaster Secretary and District Magistrates to ensure the effective conduct of rescue operations.

"A distressing report has been received that due to cloudbursts in the Bareth Dungar Tok area under the Buskedar tehsil of Rudraprayag district and in the Deval area of Chamoli district, some families have been trapped due to debris flow. Relief and rescue operations are underway at a war footing by the local administration; in this regard, I am in constant contact with officials, and have issued necessary instructions to the Disaster Secretary and District Magistrates to ensure the effective conduct of rescue operations. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safe well-being of all," Dhami wrote on X.

Heavy Rain Alert, Schools Closed In Many Districts

The Meteorological Department Dehradun issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain and lightning in and around Roorkee and Haridwar on Friday. Due to continuous rain, there is a possibility of overflowing of drains and landslides. Due to which DM Haridwar Mayur Dixit instructed to keep all government, non-government, recognised schools and Anganwadi centers closed today. The administration has issued a warning to people to be cautious and not to go near the banks of rivers and drains.

It has been raining in Bageshwar since night. Schools from 1 to 12 are closed. Traffic is closed due to debris on 17 roads. There is a crisis of electricity and drinking water.

Heavy rain continues in Pithoragarh since night. Holiday has been declared in schools in all the development blocks of Pithoragarh district due to the weather. Schools from class 1 to 12 have been closed in Munsyari. The NH Ghat has also been closed. Due to this the district has lost connectivity with other districts. Nainital is covered in fog.

It has been raining in Champawat since night. It has been raining continuously in Ranikhet and Almora. Four rural roads have been blocked due to debris in the region.
