A violent incident has shaken the city after an office bearer of the Hindu Raksha Dal was brutally attacked with sharp weapons following the circulation of a video related to the trending topic “I Love Mahadev” on social media.
According to a complaint filed at the Rishikesh Kotwali police station, Vikas Kashyap, a resident of Govind Nagar near Parshuram Chowk, had created and shared a video celebrating the popular trend “I Love Mahadev” on various internet platforms. Shortly after posting the video, a youth from a different religious group reportedly visited Vikas’s shop and began threatening him.
The youth abused him verbally and threatened to kill him. The youth also spoke ill about his organization and said that he was talking about Hindutva and cow protection. Vikas says that he ignored the youth, according to Jagran.com reported.
However, within ten minutes, a group of approximately fifteen to twenty men arrived at Vikas’s shop and launched a vicious attack with sharp weapons. The assault left Vikas unconscious, and he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his companions.
Upon investigation, Vikas was able to identify one of the attackers as Azam Khan, while the rest remain unidentified. Witnesses said the assailants arrived in two vehicles, both registered in Rishikesh.
The police have registered a case against the named individual and nearly twenty unknown persons involved in the attack. Authorities are currently investigating the matter and working to apprehend all accused.
