The Central Government has undertaken a major restructuring of NITI Aayog, appointing Ashok Lahiri, the outgoing BJP MLA from Balurghat in South Dinajpur and a renowned economist as its Vice-Chairman. He will replace Suman Bery.
Lahiri’s appointment effectively makes him the head of the government think tank, as the chairpersonship of NITI Aayog is held by the Prime Minister by default. This development also explains recent speculation about his exclusion from the West Bengal Assembly election candidates list. Along with him, scientist Gobardhan Das has been appointed as a Member of NITI Aayog through an official order issued on Friday, Jagran.com reported.
