In a world filled with chaos, confusion and cut-throat competition, people have somewhat become 'toxic'. When they are under a lot of pressure and are unable to express their emotions, they end up hurting innocent people through their words or actions. People use this toxicity as a defence mechanism to hide their insecurities.

So, it becomes important for us to know how to deal with such toxicity. And what could be a better way to learn this than from Lord Shiva, who is known as the Adiyogi, the one who fears nothing and is above all worldly attachments?

Genzs, if you are looking for a way to deal with toxic people, you can learn it from Lord Shiva's powerful teachings.

6 Lord Shiva Lessons To Deal With Toxic People

1. The Neelkanth Principle - The Art Of Setting Boundaries

During the Samudra Manthan, between the gods and demons, halahala, the deadly poison, emerged that had the power to destroy mankind. Lord Shiva drank this poison to prevent destruction, but he made sure to hold it in his throat. He neither rejected nor allowed it to enter his whole body and destroy him.

Similarly, whenever toxic people throw hate, criticism or any drama at you, you should try to avoid absorbing and taking it to your heart. Never allow that negativity to define your worth. You simply need to follow three steps: hear it, observe it and learn from it if needed; otherwise, ignore it.

2. The Vasuki Approach - Accepting Their Nature

You must have noticed that Lord Shiva adorns himself with several symbolic elements. He has a crescent moon in his matted hair, Goddess Ganga flows from his locks, he wears leopard skin and many ornaments, each carrying its own symbolism. But what stands out the most is the serpent Vasuki, wrapped around his neck.

According to Hindu scriptures, Vasuki is one of the most powerful serpents. Lord Shiva wears him while remaining completely calm. This teaches us that some people naturally thrive on drama, gossip and control. They constantly try to dominate others. By reacting to them, you are only wasting your energy. Many people keep trying to explain themselves, hoping others will change their opinion.

But by doing so, you only exhaust yourself. Stop trying to change others; instead, see them clearly and accept them for who they are. Not everyone deserves access to your energy and time.

3. The Third Eye- Seeing Beyond The Lies

Lord Shiva's Third Eye is believed to see beyond appearance and reveals the deeper truth. Toxic people often manipulate using guilt, emotional pressure, half-truths, or false promises. They try to influence and manipulate you by using these tactics. So instead of asking 'what did they do' or 'why did they do that', you should focus on their patterns, actions and consistency.

It is advised not to get distracted by false promises or sweet words. People reveal their true nature through their behaviour. What they do often reflects their own struggles, not your worth. So, trust your instincts, observe their patterns and eventually, the truth will reveal itself.

4. The Kailash Mindset- The Power Of Solitude

If you notice, Lord Shiva sits in complete solitude on Mount Kailash, away from noise and distractions.

In the same way, peaceful solitude is often far better than constant drama and noise. Many people react instantly. They become overly emotional or angry over situations that don’t even deserve that much attention. They take everything to heart and respond instantly without thinking. Lord Shiva teaches that the best way to deal with such situations is to pause, breathe and observe. Those few seconds of self-control can prevent hours of regret.

You need to understand that not every opinion deserves a response and not every conflict deserves your presence. Sometimes, the strongest response you can give is by maintaining distance.

5. Bhasma- Absolute Detachment

If you observe Lord Shiva, you will notice that he covers himself with Bhasma (ash) most of the time. This Bhasma symbolises that everything in this world is temporary and one day will turn into ash.

Toxic people gain power when you become dependent on their approval. People can control you only if they control how you see yourself. The moment you stop seeking validation, their power over you ends.

6. Tandava- The Courage To Let Go

Lord Shiva is known as Bholenath, symbolising his calm and peaceful nature. But when adharma prevails, he takes the fierce Rudra avatar and performs Tandav.

Destruction is sometimes necessary for renewal. It is a conscious act. If someone repeatedly disrespects you and crosses your boundaries, you should know how to stand up for yourself. It is a sign of self-respect. Be peaceful but be fierce when the situation demands it.
