US Open 2025: Jannik Sinner passed a challenging test during the third round match against Denis Shapovalov of the ongoing Grand Slam. He needed just three hours and 12 minutes to defeat Shapolav by 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday.
Sinner wasn't at his absolute best as he had dropped three serves, but bounced back brilliantly by breaking Shapolav six times. Post losing the first set, Sinner made a brilliant comeback by winning the second. He was trailing by 0-3 in the third set, but then he made a brilliant comeback and was leading by 4-3 and thus won the set.
After that point, Sinner completely dominated the match. By winning this match, he didn't just qualify for the fourth round but also continued his winning momentum on hard courts to 24.
Sinner will either lock horns with Alexander Bublik or Tommy Paul during the fourth round.
Osaka eases past Kasatkina
Naomi Osaka has qualified for the fourth round of the ongoing Grand Slam after defeating Daria Kasatkina by 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday. During the first set, Osaka had dropped just eight points and had put up a dominant performance and committed very few unforced errors.
Kasatkina did make a brilliant comeback during the second set as she broke Osaka's serve four times and was leading by 6-4. During the decider, Osaka kept calm and won the set by 6-3 and qualified for the fourth round, a milestone which she hadn't achieved after winning the Australian Open way back in 2021. She will next lock horns with Coco Gauff during the fourth round.

Talking about her clash against Gauff, Osaka said, “Can somebody come to the match and cheer for me because it’s tough playing an American here. I hope you guys adopted me as well. I see her as a little sister.”
Gauff has a 3-2 head-to-head record against Osaka, although Osaka did defeat her during their 2019 US Open clash.
