Amazon Layoffs 2026: As per the recent reports, Amazon is preparing to announce a major round of layoffs. Reports suggest that there will be around 16,000 corporate roles that Amazon is expected to cut this week. Also, reports suggest that India might be one of the most affected regions, with job losses likely across key offices in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This layoff is a part of last year’s Amazon layoff, where Amazon let go of about 14,000 employees. This decision aligns with the earlier reports where claims were that Amazon is planning to reduce its workforce by nearly 30,000 roles by mid-2026.

Amazon Layoffs: What the Report Says

As per a report by Reuters, Amazon is expected to announce the layoffs on Tuesday. The workforce reduction will be done globally, but it is being said that India will be one of the biggest hits for this layoff round.

The layoffs are expected to impact multiple divisions of Amazon, including:

- Amazon Web Services (AWS)

- Retail

The final number of people affected by the layoffs isn't set in stone yet, and the plan could definitely change before they officially announce anything.

Impact on Amazon India Offices

According to reports, Amazon’s major India offices are likely to be affected:

- Chennai

- Bengaluru

- Hyderabad

The Free Press Journal cited an online discussion, suggesting that white-collar jobs across Indian offices are at risk. The core operational functions managing the Chennai centre are expected to face the biggest impact. Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which serve as Amazon’s main technology hubs in India, are likely to see significant cuts.

In October 2025, Amazon did let go of around 800-1000 employees in India, as per the reports.

Reasons Behind the Job Cuts

Officially Amazon has not stated any particular reason for the layoffs. However, going by the reports, it is suggested that Amazon is:

- Replacing certain roles due to increased use of artificial intelligence and automation
