It seems like Meta is slowly entering a new domain, and that is gaming, and that too is AI-generated with an app called Pocket. The app is designed to let users create interactive games by just entering a simple prompt, and it also has a feed that can be scrolled through, which users can peruse and play with what others have also built. Meta has dubbed these small created games as "gizmos", and the app is described as "a creative platform for making and sharing gizmos".

Meta didn't announce Pocket or even hint that it was on the way. The app only came to public attention after reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi spotted its Play Store listing and shared a screenshot on X. But it turns out the rollout had already begun.

Data from app intelligence firm Appfigures shows Pocket was published on both Google Play and the Apple App Store on June 29, days before anyone noticed it. In other words, the app quietly went live without any official announcement from Meta.

Pocket Didn't Start From Scratch

If Pocket feels familiar, that's because it didn't begin as an in-house Meta project. The app is built on the work of Gizmo, an AI-powered platform that lets users create games simply by describing them with text prompts. Meta later acquired the team behind Gizmo, and Pocket carries over many of the same ideas, including AI game creation and a feed where users can discover games made by others.

The original Gizmo app hasn't disappeared either. It's still available on app stores and had already crossed around 635,000 downloads across Android and iOS before the acquisition. It also maintained a 98 per cent positive user sentiment, making it easy to see why Meta decided to bring the team on board.

Meta's AI Push Is Expanding Again

Pocket is the latest addition to Meta's growing list of AI products. The company has already introduced AI image generation through the Meta AI app, AI video creation with Vibes and AI-powered features across its social platforms and the Edits video editing app. With Pocket, Meta is now bringing those AI capabilities into game creation as well.

For now, though, the company is staying quiet. Meta hasn't officially unveiled Pocket or responded to questions about the app. Considering how it was released without any announcement, Pocket looks like an early experiment for now, with a formal launch likely to happen later.
