Before everyone gets too revved up, here’s something I need to point out from the beginning: nothing has been officially confirmed. New information about Samsung’s Exynos Modem 5410, however, is beginning to arrive – and it gives an early glimpse at how Samsung will be tackling high-end connectivity on its flagship devices to come.

Samsung has announced the Exynos 2600, its next-gen smartphone chip based on a state-of-the-art 2nm process. The processor is already rumoured to feature in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 and at least some models of the Galaxy S26 series in certain markets. Samsung didn’t have much to say at launch about the modem that is packaged with the chip. That silence is now starting to be a bit broken.

What Is the Exynos Modem 5410?

This Exynos Modem 5410 will be a high-end modem to pair with the Exynos 2600. This one is unlike your everyday smartphone modem, though, combining both terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication technologies onto the one chip.

It apparently offers support for LTE DTC, NB-IoT NTN, and NR NTN, making it one of Samsung’s most sophisticated connectivity offerings yet. The modem is made on a state-of-the-art 4 nanometer EUV process and utilizes the 3GPP Release 17 standard.

Satellite Connectivity Features Explained

One of the most exciting features of the Exynos Modem 5410 is it's satellite connectivity.

NB-IoT NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks such as satellite network) has very low data rates. It is meant for dependable transmission of small packets of information, like location credentials or short messages, even in far-flung places like deserts or oceans. Samsung has apparently gotten Skylo certification for this feature.

The biggest feature is most likely LTE DTC (Long Term Evolution Direct to Cell). This can allow for prolonged satellite communication that could potentially support services such as voice calling without beiung dependant upon traditional cellular networks.

NR NTN, or New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks moves to the next level by offering faster data throughput. Over the long term, it could enable more challenging applications, such as satellite-based video calls and richer data services.

Performance and Network Support

On the technology side, Exynos Modem 5410 is compatible with 5G NR dual connectivity in sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrum ranges (FR1 and FR2). Samsung is rumored to be aiming for a maximum download speed of 14.79Gbps, which would put it squarely in flagship territory.

By supporting modern 5G standards and satellite networks under one roof, the modem seems built to process both your everyday mobile data as well as your future emergency or off-grid communication needs.

What This Could Mean for the Galaxy S26 Series

It's too early to verify but we doubt that the Exynos Modem 5410 will launch with the Galaxy S26 series. That said, as Samsung’s top-of-the-line modem it is a prime suspect if the company intends to set satellite connectivity up front and center.

If future Galaxy S26 models do in fact arrive with next-gen satellite-powered calling and messaging, the Exynos Modem 5410 is probably the place where this story meets a beginning. Until Samsung makes the details official, however, consider all this as an educated preview rather than a set timetable I’ll meet you at the 5G phone store showdown with prior commitments.
