Samsung's AI strategy, starting with the Galaxy S24 series, may undergo a dramatic change. Samsung mobile division's Choi Won-Joon, the company's president and COO, indicated that the mobile giant is willing to look into using alternative AI technologies proprietary of competitors, other than Google's Gemini, which is currently the backbone of Galaxy AI.
Choi, in an interview with Reuters, shared that Samsung is in active talks with both OpenAI and Perplexity to use their AI technologies in new devices, likely beginning with the S26 series.
Samsung’s AI Partnerships Under Discussion
- Samsung is reportedly close to a collaboration with Perplexity, hoping to incorporate both its application and AI assistant into new mobile devices.
- Other AI solutions from OpenAI are being looked into as well, though no investment from Samsung is expected in OpenAI.
- Choi emphasised: “We’re talking to multiple vendors. As long as these AI agents are competitive and can provide the best user experiences, we are open to any AI agent out there.”
Galaxy AI and the Future of AI Integration
Samsung's Galaxy AI suite launched in 2024 and has since gained the ability for real-time translation, generative photo editing, and advanced text summarisation. With partnerships from OpenAI or Perplexity, users can gain more advanced, conversational AI agents directly on their smartphones.
Galaxy S26 and Hardware Choices
With Samsung considering the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Exynos 2600 chipsets, the Galaxy S26 series could propel the company forward. A decision still has to be made regarding the processor lineup, as there is no conclusion as of now.

Final Thoughts
Samsung appears to be at an important crossroads concerning their AI-centric smartphone strategy, with OpenAI or Perplexity AI signalling an important turning point in 2026 when they release the Galaxy S26.
