Hyderabad News: A 22-year-old engineering student was found dead in his hostel room in Hyderabad after leaving behind a video message alleging harassment and extortion by his college mates. Police have registered a case and are investigating the role of fellow students in abetting the suicide.
According to a NDTV report, the student, identified as Jadav Sai Teja from Adilabad district, was pursuing his second year at Siddharth Engineering College. Belonging to a Scheduled Tribe community, he was staying at a private hostel in the city.

According to police, Sai Teja had gone with a group of college students to a bar in Medipally on Sunday evening. The group reportedly ran up a bill of nearly Rs10,000. In his final video, Sai Teja alleged that he was being forced to pay the amount, threatened and beaten when he refused.
“I was going to college. Four or five people came and threatened me. They are demanding money and hitting me. I am very scared. What should I do? Please save me,” Sai Teja said in the recording.
Police said that after returning from the party, Sai Teja went back to his hostel room, where he was later found hanging. His family and lawyer travelled over 300 km to reach Hyderabad after being informed of his death.

Advocate Kishore, who accompanied the family, alleged that the student was pressured by seniors to consume alcohol and then forced to clear the bar bill.
The Times Of India report cited Malkajgiri Deputy Commissioner of Police P V Padmaja Reddy as stating that, the incident was not being treated as a ragging case but confirmed that charges of abetment to suicide, extortion and violation of the SC/ST Act have been filed. Police teams are tracking down the suspects named in the complaint.
The body has been shifted for post-mortem and further investigation is under way.
