'Mufasa: The Lion King' will release in theatres in 2024 but its production got delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The movie will focus on the rise of Mufasa, the greatest king of the Pride Lands, as told by Rafiki to Kiara, who is the daughter of Simba and Nala and commentary done by Timon and Pumbaa.
Talking about the songs in 'Mufasa The Lion King', director Barry Jenkins said, "I can’t tell you who made those new songs, but they are absolutely amazing.”
He further said, "You are probably wondering… what is the director of ‘Moonlight’ doing talking to me about an eight-quadrant tentpole legacy IP massive film? And I gotta say, the thought was very strange to me at first, as well. But oh my god. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life, and I’m so glad I made this picture.”
Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani will reprise their roles of Pumbaa, Timon and Rafiki respectively and Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr will join as Mufasa and Scar respectively.
