Uttar Pradesh News: A 22-year-old man, Rishikesh, was allegedly murdered and decapitated by a group of friends in Kanpur after a personal dispute. Police said the murder was triggered after one of the accused discovered that Rishikesh was in a relationship with his sister.

Rishikesh, a resident of Chakeri, went missing on the evening of August 29. His elder brother, Ravi Kumar, later reported him missing after the body was discovered. According to the police, Rishikesh had been lured out of his home by two friends, Mogli and Nikhil, who told his family he was going to a Ganesh Chaturthi pandal.

Unbeknownst to his family, a group of acquaintances, including Pawan, Babi, Danny, Satyam, Rishu and Akash were waiting near the pandal. They forced Rishikesh onto a motorcycle and took him to Kakori forest, an isolated area on Kanpur’s outskirts.

The NDTV report cited Police as stating that, Rishikesh was tied up with ropes, his legs bound and his throat slit with a knife in the forest. The accused admitted to beheading him to prevent identification. A sack was pre-arranged to transport the body, which they carried to Jajmau bridge using an e-rickshaw and dumped the remains into the River Ganga at separate locations.

The primary accused, Pawan Mallah, was both a friend of Rishikesh and the elder brother of the woman involved in the relationship. Pawan, who had a previous criminal record and had been banned from Kanpur for six months, allegedly became enraged upon discovering the relationship and orchestrated the murder.

The body parts were found along the Ganga riverbank in Maharajpur on Sunday. Relatives identified Rishikesh through a tattoo on his right hand and the sacred thread tied around his wrist.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, while four others, including the main accused, remain at large. Authorities continue to investigate and search for the remaining suspects.
