The Kanpur-Sagar Highway, which has suffered extensive damage due to decades of heavy vehicle traffic, has witnessed 1,376 road accidents in the past four years, resulting in nearly 700 deaths and over 1,600 injuries. In just the last year, 374 accidents claimed over 200 lives and seriously injured more than 300 people.
Highlighting the urgent need for compliance with traffic regulations, DIG Maurya urged the public to strictly follow traffic rules, avoid wrong-side driving, and prioritise the use of helmets and seat belts. “Road safety is life-saving. Follow rules and inspire others to do the same,” he said.

As part of ongoing enforcement efforts, traffic police have taken action against 674 violators in recent days, including:
-100 for driving in the wrong direction
-22 for carrying more than the permitted number of passengers
-16 for vehicles without High Security Registration Plates (HSRP)
-536 for other violations
Officials reiterated that coordinated planning and public cooperation are essential to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents along the route.
