With the Namo Bharat corridor stations up to Modipuram now ready, public excitement in Meerut is on the rise. As construction barricades are removed, residents are getting a glimpse of the city's modernizing infrastructure, often stopping to take photographs and videos. The main question on everyone's mind is when the new line will finally open to passengers.
While no official inauguration date has been announced, there is strong speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the service this month. Although some suggest it could be a gift for the Prime Minister's birthday on September 17, this is considered unlikely. Experts believe an inauguration during Navratri, which begins on September 22, is a more probable timeline.
From an operational standpoint, the corridor is prepared for launch. All necessary trials have been successfully completed, and safety inspections have given the green light. To ensure readiness, Metro trains are being run continuously, while Namo Bharat trains are also conducting test runs along various stretches between Modipuram, Meerut South and Sarai Kale Khan.
Construction work at all stations from Partapur to Modipuram is finished. This includes the underground stations at Meerut Central, Bhainsali, and Begumpul. While the main structures are complete, final finishing touches are being applied to exit gates, parking areas, and adjacent service roads.
Notably, the Begumpul station features an additional fourth floor dedicated to commercial activities. Other key infrastructure, like the foot overbridge (FOB) at Meerut North station, is in its final stages. The FOB and entry or exit gates at Modi Puram station, along with the Modipuram Depot station, are now complete.
