The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the opening of new District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs) in all 18 divisions (mandals) of the state. The decision was followed by a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

At present, such centres are operating in 38 districts of the state, but operations were affected in many places due to certain issues. The government will now operate the entire framework by equipping it with new resources to ensure there are no disruptions to the services provided to persons with disabilities.

Providing details on the cabinet's decision, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that with the opening of new DDRCs, facilities such as surveys, identification, camps, assistive devices, artificial limb fitment, and training will be readily available to persons with disabilities in the state at a single location.

Additionally, clinical services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy will be provided at these centres. People will also no longer have to make multiple rounds to obtain necessary documents like UDID cards and disability certificates.
