A 48-year-old man died after being assaulted on his way to a mosque following a dispute over the throwing of colours during Holi in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao on Saturday. The incident has triggered tensions in the area, prompting a heavy police deployment, including Rapid Response Teams from multiple stations.
The deceased, identified as 45-year-old Sharif, was a resident near Qasim Nagar Rabbanna Mosque in Sadar. He worked as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned home two months ago. On Saturday, while heading to a mosque from his ancestral home in Mohalla Kanji, he encountered a group playing Holi near Mohalla Kashif Ali Sarai Chungi Power House, reported Jagran.com.
When the group threw colours on him, Sharif protested. However, they repeated the act, leading to a verbal altercation that soon escalated into a physical assault. He was eventually rescued by some people, who helped him sit on a platform and gave him water. Moments later, he collapsed and died, the report added.
