If you thought that your Rs 1000 to Rs 3000 electricity bill was too much and the authorities needed to do something about it, then what would you say about the electricity bill that a man allegedly received in Haryana’s Gurugram? The bill in question was of Rs 45,491, which the said man allegedly paid for 2 months. Sharing a screen grab of the payment, the man joked about switching to ‘candles’, as he clearly hinted towards the alarmingly high cost. However, the post that was supposed to be rather ‘relatable’, instead left some people calling him a ‘showoff’.

Many pointed out that the man did not disclose that the bill was for 2 months, while the rest commented on the possibility of the bill being for a building with multiple families. Many also shared their calculations and blamed the man for running multiple ACs 24 hours a day, and called the bill ‘justified’.

A few people, on the other hand, sympathised with the man and chastised the country's rapid inflation. The post went viral almost immediately.

The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘jasveer10’. The post was captioned, “Paid the electricity bill, now thinking of switching to candles.”

The post was shared two days ago and pulled more than a million views. Most people were left shocked over the bill, while the rest enquired about the number of ACs the man was running in his house. Some also called it normal for two months, if the bill was for a building with multiple families.

ACs, lights, etc etc- washing machine, dryer, etc etc - if you consume electricity units you will have to pay that much- and you didn’t specify two months, you conveniently ignored that! Please minimize your electricity consumption or else cough up the money! No point putting it out on social media & sensationalizing!” a user said.
