Viral Video: Toll plazas have seemingly become one of the riskiest places to work at, as social media has been witnessing quite an alarming number of deliberate hit-and-runs for a while. Recently, a fresh case made it into headlines, after a video went viral, as per which, a car driver ran over a woman employee at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway toll plaza. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera that was installed at the toll plaza. Soon after the accident, the woman was rushed to the hospital, as she was reportedly severely injured. As per the date seen on the CCTV footage, the incident took place on May 13.
Opening up about the accident, the manager of the said toll plaza stressed the importance of a proper investigation. “A car coming from Delhi misbehaved with our staff. When asked for the toll, the driver ran over the staff member, causing severe injuries to her. This is a serious incident, and the administration should take proper action to prevent such incidents in the future," Anil Sharma, the toll plaza’s manager, was quoted as saying to the news agency ANI.
As per reports, a case has been registered against the driver and an investigation is underway.
The video was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘NCMIndiaa’. The post was captioned, “The act of this car driver is totally wrong and he must be punished for this but why these women were standing in front of his car like this when there is a barricade installed there?”
The video was shared yesterday and pulled 93K views from people. Many demanded action against the driver, while the rest expressed concerns about the woman’s well-being. Some also suggested people not use themselves as blockages at toll plazas as many drivers commit such crimes.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “There is no sympathy with toll tax people. She could have died or something. I hope the police will catch the accused soon,” a user said. “No number plate, no fast tag. Is it scripted?” asked another.
“This is how people try to cross toll w/o paying. They tailgate the car. That criminal driver should be jailed. The woman was trying to stop that car from skipping tolls without paying. Doing her job, might be forced to do that by her seniors! But that could be too dangerous as we just saw,” added another.
“Toll tax has got to do with the politicians who are responsible for it, they did stand in front since far too many people just break the barriers, perhaps it’s not worth their lives to stand in front of. I wouldn’t blame the women - who were trying to do their job,” added another.
