World Cup 2023: With India’s ace batsman Shubman Gill ending up back in the hospital bed, dark clouds and worries have started hovering above the Indian national cricket team and the cricket fans all across the country over the upcoming World Cup matches. Mostly, the country is worried about the possible absence of Gill from the India Vs Pakistan match that is scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 14, at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Gill, after reaching Chennai, was hospitalised due to high fever that later turned out to be dengue. The hope of India fans started rising after the ace cricketer was discharged, but the celebrations took a U-turn after Gill reportedly faced a low platelet count, due to which he is back in the hospital. As soon as the sad news made it on the internet, the netizens were quick to react to the matter and express their concerns. 

This is the 13th edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which is being hosted in India. The tournament with 48 scheduled matches, began on October 05 and will culminate on November 19. India played its first match against Australia on October 08 and won by 6 wickets. Meanwhile, the country is all set to lock horns with Afghanistan tomorrow, October 11. And the most anticipated match for the coming week is India Vs Pakistan, which is scheduled for October 14. 

Taking to the internet, the cricket fans and enthusiasts were quick to pray for the cricket’s recovery. Some also expressed their concerns over Gill’s possible absence from the next match and from the October 14 match where the country will play against its favourite rival team, Pakistan.

“Shubman Gill is likely to miss the Pakistan match in World Cup. [PTI] Get well soon, Gill....!!!!!!” a user wrote.

“Only if BCCI uses Ashwin anaa as an opener may Shubman Gill's dengue outbreak be beneficial, similar to how it was in 2011 (Sreesanth for Praveen Kumar),” added a second person. 

“No one! Pakistan team: When they got to know Shubman Gill will not play against Pakistan,” added a third person. 

“Rohit Sharma to Shubman Gill,” said a fourth. 

“If Team India really needs cover for Shubman Gill then there is no doubt that it should be Shikhar Dhawan. In the absence of Gill, we can't get a better opener than him. He is Mr. ICC and greatly experienced for these events,” a fifth user said.
