Indian mangoes are witnessing a huge surge in popularity in the United States. Strong demand for premium varieties has led to shipments reportedly selling out within hours. To promote Indian mango exports, the Consulate General of India in Seattle on Friday organised atasting event titled “Mango Magic Festival,” showcasing the growing appeal of the fruit among American consumers and major retail chains.

Indian Mangoes Gain Popularity In US

According to a news agency PTI report, there has been a rising demand for Indian mangoes in US cities. Consumers are showing strong interest in popular varieties such as Alphonso, Kesar, Banganapalle, Himayat, Langra, Dussehri, and Rajapuri. These mangoes are appreciated for their taste and quality.

'Mango Magic' Event In Seattle

In the second edition of the “Mango Magic: Promotion and Tasting Event of Indian Mangoes”, over 100 leading importers of Indian fruits participated in the event. It also included senior representatives from major US retail companies such as Costco. Guests had the opportunity to taste seven premium varieties of Indian mangoes. The event was organised in partnership with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

The mangoes presented at the event included: Alphonso and Kesar from Maharashtra, Banganapalle and Himayat from Andhra Pradesh, Langra and Dussehri from Uttar Pradesh, and Rajapuri from Gujarat. A special Indian lunch featuring dishes made with these mango varieties was also served during the event.

Positive Response From US Retailers

US retail giant Costco has recently begun selling Indian Kesar mangoes in selected stores. Company representatives said the mangoes were selling extremely fast, with demand often exceeding supply. Costco Vice President of Fresh Produce Bob Huskey noted that the mangoes were “selling faster than they can be restocked,” highlighting strong consumer demand.

Indian mangoes were introduced across multiple Costco locations in the US, including Seattle, Las Vegas, New Jersey, and Greater Los Angeles regions. In many locations, the entire stock reportedly sold out within two hours of hitting store shelves.

India is the world’s largest producer of mangoes. The country produces over 26 million metric tonnes annually with more than 1,000 varieties. Indian mango exports to the US had resumed in 2007 after an 18-year gap and have since grown significantly.
