Iran War 2026: Amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, Iran on Friday issued a strong statement on the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserted that the chokepoint is closed, adding that any ship attempting to pass through without its permission will face a "harsh response". Its threat came after the Trump administration claimed that the Hormuz is functioning. The recent remarks from the Iranian authorities are expected to worsen the energy crisis across the world.

In its statement, the IRGC asserted that the ships attempting to pass through the chokepoint will face severe action. "The Strait of Hormuz has been closed, and any movement through the strait will be met with a harsh response," the IRGC Navy said in its statement. In a separate statement, Iranian authorities also asserted that the ships belonging to the nations backing the US and Israel will also not be allowed to pass through the critical chokepoint.

"We will prevent the passage of any ships to or from the ports of countries allied with and supporting America and Israel to any destination and through any passage," Iran clarified in its statement. The recent escalation is likely to further surge the prices of oil in several nations dependent on the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump has also been facing criticism in his own country, as US Senator Chris Murphy on Friday pointed out the humongous amount that the US has been spending to clear the chokepoint. "Here's the problem. The strait was open before the war began; we are now seeking to solve a problem that we created. This is insanity!" Murphy said.

"Two billion dollars is a lot of money. That's the minimum amount of money being spent every single day on this war..." he added.
