Russia-Ukraine War: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday stated that the war in Ukraine could have been avoided if US President Donald Trump had not been "robbed of the election" in 2020. Speaking to state media, Putin referred to the decision to invade Ukraine in February 2022 as a "crisis" and added that the conflict would not have occurred under a Trump administration.
Putin also backed Trump’s claim that he was the real winner of the 2020 US Presidential polls and not Joe Biden. He also emphasised that the victory was ‘stolen’. Trump has recently started his second term as the 47th US President after defeating his rival candidate Kamala Harris.
"I cannot but agree with him that if he had been president if his victory had not been stolen from him in 2020, then perhaps there would not have been the crisis in Ukraine that arose in 2022,” Putin was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
According to news agency Reuters, Putin suggested that he and Trump should have a meeting to discuss the ongoing Ukraine war and energy prices. He also praised Trump, calling him smart and pragmatic.

"Therefore, most likely, it would be better for us to meet, based on the realities of today, to talk calmly on all those areas that are of interest to both the United States and Russia. We are ready," Putin stated.
Putin's response came just a day after Trump requested him to "make a deal" with Ukraine and bring an immediate end to the ongoing conflict. Speaking to the media from the Oval Office, Trump, who recently began his second term as president, described the Russia-Ukraine war as "ridiculous" and said it was causing unnecessary suffering.
"That battlefield is like no battlefield since World War II... and I have pictures that you don't want to see. Soldiers are being killed daily at numbers that we haven't seen in decades. It would be nice to end that war. It's a ridiculous war,” Trump stated.
