Tata Harrier Petrol:  The Tata Harrier and Safari are set to receive a new engine option soon. The Tata Harrier was introduced in India in 2019, whereas the Safari was introduced in the country in 2021, and both of these SUVs have remained popular offerings in their respective segments. However, both of these SUVs are exclusively available with a diesel engine. The Tata Safari and Harrier will soon be launched in the country. But do you know why Tata is planning to equip the Tata Harrier and Safari with a petrol engine?

Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol: Challenge

As informed earlier, currently the Tata Sierra and the Tata Harrier are exclusively available with a diesel engine in the country. A car with multiple powertrain options can cater to a variety of consumers, which results in strong demand. Not just that, different powertrain options provide different power and torque output, along with different fuel efficiency metrics. This essentially means that people have more options and they can choose the option that suits their needs. The SUV segment is currently witnessing strong demand. The competition in the segment is also getting more intense, and in such a time, offering SUVs exclusively with a diesel engine can limit their potential.

Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol: The ‘Diesel Problem’

A car with a diesel engine poses several challenges to a vehicle owner. To begin with, diesel engines are naturally noisier, and they also make more vibrations when compared to petrol engines. The oil in the diesel engine also breaks down faster, which essentially means that the oil needs to be replaced more frequently. The diesel engines also pose the challenge of excessive smoke, which is harmful to the environment. Lastly, the diesel engines also pose the challenge of a clogged emission system (DPF/EGR), which results in reduced power. These issues could also be the reason why Tata is planning on bringing the Safari and Harrier Petrol in India.
