Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have decided to part ways with their long-serving batting coach Michael Hussey as the franchise begins planning for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

According to a report by Cricbuzz on Saturday, the decision has been taken as part of CSK’s plans to make changes to their coaching staff ahead of the next season.

Hussey has been associated with the Chennai-based franchise for several years, first as a player and later as a batting coach. He took up the coaching role in 2018 and has remained a key member of the support staff since then.

His departure comes after CSK made changes to other positions in their coaching setup earlier this year.

CSK Continue Changes To Coaching Staff

CSK have already made significant changes to their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise parted ways with head coach Stephen Fleming earlier this year and brought in former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan.

The team have also moved on from bowling coach Eric Simmons, with former India pacer Mohit Sharma taking over the role.

Hussey’s exit is another major change for the five-time IPL champions as they look to prepare for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the future of fielding coach James Foster is also uncertain. CSK are yet to confirm who will replace Hussey as their batting coach.

With several changes taking place behind the scenes, the franchise’s coaching structure could look considerably different when the next IPL season gets underway.

Will Michael Hussey Join England’s Test Coaching Staff?

Hussey could have another coaching opportunity waiting for him, with a possible move to the England Test setup being discussed.

A report in August suggested that Fleming, who is set to take charge of England’s Test team, wanted Hussey to join his coaching staff as the batting coach.

The two have worked together at CSK for several years and share a strong professional relationship. If the reported plan goes ahead, Hussey could reunite with Fleming in England ahead of the latter’s first Test series as head coach.

However, there has been no official confirmation of Hussey joining the England setup.

Hussey Has Previous Experience With England

The former Australian batter is no stranger to working with England’s national team. He served as a consultant during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, when England went on to win the title.

Hussey is currently the head coach of Welsh Fire in The Hundred competition, adding to his experience in franchise cricket.

Speaking about his experience with England in the past, Hussey admitted that wearing the national team’s shirt initially felt unusual, given his background as an Australian international.

“The first time I pulled on the England shirt it was a little bit strange but after that you get to work with the players, enjoy developing those individual relationships, and forget about what you’re wearing,” Hussey had said.
