Asia Cup 2025: India pacer Jasprit Bumrah usually doesn't express his opinion much on social media; however, his stunning response to call out former player Mohammad Kaif has caught everyone's attention. Bumrah took to his official social media account as he pointed out his disagreement with Kaif's tweet regarding pacers not opting to bowl in the death overs to avoid any injuries.
The Gautam Gambhir-led team management has been extra-cautious with Bumrah's fitness ever since he suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which India lost 3-1. As a result of his workload management, the fast bowler featured in just three out of five Test matches against England, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The post by Kaif stated that Bumrah was delivering three overs during the powerplay, rather than his usual distribution of overs across the powerplay, middle, and death phases. The cricketer-turned-commentator speculated that the bowler was taking precautions to avoid any further injury. Kaif also felt that this step by Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir could negatively impact the team.

Bumrah reacted to the tweet on Thursday evening and responded with "incorrect before and incorrect again".
"Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in Asia Cup, he bowled a three-over spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. 1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters. Against stronger teams at World Cup, this could hurt India," Kaif said on X.

Picking Bumrah A Missed Opportunity: Irfan Pathan
On his YouTube channel, Pathan said that while Bumrah's committment to Test cricket is fantastic, he would have picked up a young fast bowler an opportunity if he was a selector. '

"It seems like a missed opportunity not to play a young fast bowler in these two Tests, but that's the team's current direction. If I were a selector or manager, I would have surely tried to give a young fast bowler an opportunity, focusing on their development, not just quick results. Bumrah remains committed to Test cricket, which is fantastic," he said.
